✍️Writing a Script 📝
In order to record their podcasts, the children first had to come up with a topic to discuss. They worked in pairs, planning out the content of their podcast beforehand. This could range from sharing a personal story to giving a brief history of a famous football club like Manchester United.
To prepare for recording, the children wrote an outline of their podcast and considered what sound effects they might want to use. They then transferred their ideas onto an auto-cue, which they would read from during the audio recording.
As shown by the example scripts on the left, the children covered a wide variety of subjects and topics in their podcasts.
🎙️Recording & Sound FX🔊
To begin their podcasting project, the children first familiarized themselves with the recording software. They used a free version of a professional podcasting package that could be accessed on their Chromebooks.
After recording their initial audio, the students listened back to their recordings and made improvements. They learned how to edit the start and end of their recordings, as well as how to cut out any mistakes to enhance the overall quality.
To enhance their podcasts even further, the learners added sound effects and background music. They layered these audio elements with their existing voice recordings, and then exported the final product as an audio file.
Thanks to the online software, some children were able to work on their recordings from home in preparation for the next lesson. Additionally, the children used various open-source websites to download free music and sound effects to include in their podcasts.
