Lesson Focus

  • Children will be able to explain the difference between Physical Geography and Human Geography.

  • Children will be able to explain the importance of maps in geography.

  • Use a map to locate different places around the world.

  • Children will be able to explain why it is useful to use different views of the same place on a map, normal, satellite, street etc.

  • Explain how different views can spot issues in the world such as climate change.

  • Use a map to explore their local area.

  • How a paper map differs from the online versions, advantages/disadvantages.

  • Children will be able to identify different objects on the map, fields, roads, houses, rivers etc.

  • Explore the 7 continents of the world and the oceans that surround them.

  • Explore the deepest oceans on the planet.

  • Children will be able to explain why these places are so difficult to explore.

  • Identify and locate the different continents and countries and label them on a world map.

  • Explore and talk about different countries around the world and what makes them different.

  • Research the population of each continent and create a population graph.

  • Able to talk about population effects on the world.

  • Understand that climate change is linked to pollution.

  • Understand the effects pollution is having on the earth.

  • Use Jamboard to share our knowledge and understanding.

Digital Skills & Computing Focus

  • Log into a computer and their Google Account.

  • Access Google Classroom.

  • Able to identify the set assignment and follow instructions.

  • Open and start to work on the Google Doc template.

  • Complete the different sections.

  • Add pictures where stated.

  • Use keyboard shortcuts.

  • Understand left and right mouse clicks.

  • Access and use different online maps.

  • Copy and paste data with or without formatting and understand the difference.

  • Open and complete the “Drag “n” Drop” activity.

  • Open Jamboard and share knowledge and understanding.

  • Open the Google Sheets template.

  • Research and enter the necessary data.

  • Add data to Google Sheets.

  • Create a graph.

  • Inset and link the graph into Google Docs.

  • Print if required.

Y4 Geography worksheets

Children completed a number of worksheets as well as contributing to a class discussion about each section of the topic work and added comments to a collaborative Jamboard.

Children used Google Classroom to link all their work together, access websites and maps and open and complete their worksheets.
