Graphic and design layout are important skills that can help children project their ideas and plans. Students will develop an understanding of key terms such as "text" and "images" and recognise their role in conveying messages. They will engage with desktop publishing software and make thoughtful choices regarding font size, color, and style to enhance pre-existing documents.
Students will be introduced to concepts such as "templates," "orientation," and "placeholders," They will progressively incorporate text and images into their work using desktop publishing software. Children will also be working with different images and will produce a portfolio of their work. 🔊Communicating - text or images👀
Text and images are two ways to communicate messages. Text is made up of words, while images are pictures. Both text and images can be used to communicate messages, but they each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Year 3 looked at the advantages and disadvantages of both. The best way to communicate messages effectively is to use text and images together. Text and images can complement each other and help to communicate messages more clearly. For example, a text can be used to explain a complex message, while an image can be used to illustrate the message.
✒️Making the edit⌨️
In this lesson, children learn about desktop publishing. Desktop publishing is the use of a computer to create documents that look like they were professionally designed. We started by making an invitation card, and we'll learn how to choose the right font, size, and colour for our text. We'll also learn how to use the Return, Backspace, and Shift keys, and we'll learn how to type age-appropriate punctuation marks. We then moved on to create a newsletter. We learnt the importance of choosing the correct font, font size, colour and how to layout our design on the page.
🤖Changing pictures with AI🤖
This project is all about producing content and making use of the tools that can be used to change and improve images. We wanted children to take a look at the past before moving into the future with AI generated images, so we set them a task of colourising old black and white pictures. Students could choose images from any era and then set about using AI to turn the old black and white image into full colour. The results were mixed with some pictures turning out really well and clearly AI struggle a little with others. Overall, the results look amazing.
🧙♀️AI MAGIC🧙♂️
AI graphic design is a new and exciting field that is opening up a world of possibilities for children. With AI, children can create stunning graphics and illustrations without having to learn complex design software. There are a number of different AI graphic design tools available, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Some of the most popular The one children are using in this project is free and allows them to create stunning pictures. Children started with simple projects, the idea is not try to create something too complex right away. Students soon got the hand of it and produced some great designs.
